WORKING WITH ME
Your story should be told the way you want it to be. My job is to point out what is working well and offer suggestions for areas that can be improved. Every author's voice is unique, and I'm here to help strengthen that, not alter your voice or fundamentally change it. I'm your partner in making your manuscript the best it can be!

My expertise is in the fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and mystery genres; I'm familiar with their structures, tropes, and reader expectations. I particularly enjoy helping writers meet some expectations while subverting others, analyzing story structure, deepening worldbuilding, and enhancing characterization. I support diversity and representation of all sexualities, gender identities, disabilities, ethnicities, cultures, and marginalized identities, and I edit with conscious language and inclusivity in mind.

THE PROCESS
Every editor works a little differently! Here's what you can expect from me. Note that I prefer email communication (as opposed to phone, text, or video chats), as this works best for me.

Step 1: Information.
Tell me about your novel by filling out this editing query form.
Step 2: Scheduling and Sample Edit.
I will get back to you with my availability. You can also ask questions and request a free, five-page sample edit to see if our communication styles are compatible.

Step 3: Contract.
If we decide we're a good fit for each other and you want to move forward, I will send you a contract to sign that details the work to be done. (See a sample contract here.)

Step 4: First Invoice.
After we have both signed the contract, I will send you an invoice for a 10% deposit. You can safely pay via credit card through the invoicing app I use or request to pay via PayPal.

Step 5: Send the Manuscript.
Send the manuscript to me as a Word doc, 8.5" x 11", 12-point font that is easy to read (e.g. Times New Roman), 1" margins on all sides. I actually don't mind if the doc is single spaced, but double spaced is also fine.

Step 6: Editing.
I will get to work on the manuscript! I usually don't communicate much during this stage unless I have questions or you request updates at specific intervals.

Step 7: Delivery of Files.
I will send you the files (an edit letter and/or doc with comments and suggested changes depending on the type of edit you requested).

Step 8: Final Invoice.
I will send you the final invoice, which is due for payment on or before the delivery of files (depending on the contract terms).

Step 9: Revision.
I always recommend taking a couple weeks to digest the edits and suggestions, deciding what is right for you and your manuscript. Then, make a revision plan and dig in when you're ready. If you have a few questions about edits, I'm happy to answer those via email. If you have lots of questions and want help brainstorming, you can book a video chat with me for an extra fee or we can do a Q&A over email.

Step 10: Optional Re-Read Report.
If you want me to look at your manuscript again after revisions, you can book me to do a re-read report at a discounted rate ($0.01/word). I also offer line editing services. Otherwise, you are ready for the next steps in the publishing process, whether that's querying your novel, sending it to beta readers before another round of revisions, or marking it ready for copy editing!
ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOMMODATIONS
If I am able, I am happy to modify my editing process to accommodate disability, chronic illness, neurodiversity, or other barriers that make it difficult to work with an editor. Examples of accommodations: only giving actionable feedback, using a specific font, sending updates at specific intervals. Please let me know if I can do anything to make working with me easier.
