Editorial Services

I’m your partner in leveling up your manuscript.

My job as an editor is to strengthen your vision for your story. My expertise is in genre fiction, particularly fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. I particularly enjoy helping writers meet some expectations while subverting others, analyzing story structure, deepening worldbuilding, and enhancing characterization.

“Allison's knowledge of story structure and her keen sense of pacing helped me break my struggling manuscript down to its bones and rebuild it into the best possible version of itself. Her insight, encouragement, and excitement provided a much-needed boost to get my novel polished and ready for readers. I couldn't be prouder of the result.”

 FAQs

  • I specialize in fantasy, science fiction, and horror novels for middle grade, young adult, new adult, and adult readers (I will also work on the occasional cozy mystery). I am also a good fit for disability/chronic illness representation and LGBTQIA+ representation.

  • AI-written books, contemporary fiction, erotica, historical fiction, literary fiction, nonfiction, picture books, poetry, rape/sexual assault scenes, slashers.

  • I prefer email communication. First, tell me about your novel by filling out the form (link below). Then, I will get back to you with my availability. You can ask questions and request a sample edit. If we decide we’re a good fit for each other, I’ll send you a contract to sign and an invoice for the deposit to book the spot. You’ll send the manuscript to me in Standard Manuscript Format, and I will get to work on it! I usually don’t communicate much during this stage unless I have questions.

Once I’m finished the edit, I will send you the final invoice, which is due before the delivery of files. Then I will send you the edit letter and/or document with comments and suggestions (depending on the type of edit you hired me for). And that’s it! If you have any questions after the edit, you can shoot me an email. If you have a LOT of questions or want to go over edits extensively, you can book a follow-up email interview.

  • Send your manuscript to me as a Word document, 8.5” x 11”, 12-point Times New Roman, 1” margins on all sides.

  • If I am able, I am happy to modify my editing process to accommodate disability, chronic illness, neurodiversity, or other barriers that make it difficult to work with an editor. Examples of accommodations: only giving actionable feedback, using a specific font, sending updates at specific intervals. Please let me know if I can do anything to make working with me easier.

  • I love most subgenres under these three umbrellas, but here are some of my favourites. I also love a genre-blend and am a sucker for a cozy mystery.

Fantasy: adventure, dark, fairy tales, mythological, science fantasy

Sci-Fi: apocalyptic, hard, litRPG, soft, space opera

Horror: cosmic, eco-horror, psychological, supernatural, survival

  • Yes, you can send your first chapter (up to 1500 words) and I will do a free sample edit to see if we’re a good fit for each other.

  • You can securely pay through credit card via the invoicing software I use. I also accept PayPal.
